FRUIT & CELEBRATE

About Summer…

We have made it to the illuminated, climactic peak of our journey through the wheel of the year!

After learning to release in the Fall, descend into the fertile dark void of Winter, travel through the tender Spring, we've nourished ourselves into wholeness with the threads of sacred wild plants, ancient practices and rhythms of the moon & Earth singing a song of renewal through our bones and souls.

We activated these renewing energies, learned to transform currents of chi, releasing and renewing with each turn of the daily, monthly and annual year. We planted gardens of rebirth inside of us and around us and lovingly tended them with devotion and consistency, learning how to parent ourselves and return the favor of Mothering the Earth Mother too.

The vital energies of Spring have grown in us and through us, blooming through our beings, singing songs of courtship and ecstasy to the wild creatures and elements with whom we alchemize. And as we learn with alchemy, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Through this process of weaving ourselves into deeper reservoirs of the Earth and casting prayers further into the spiraling stars, we have grown in power.

Here, in the summer months, in the archetype of the Mother, we learn that true power is not power over someone or something ~ true power is the ability to transform anything at will. And, as any parent knows, with true power comes responsibility.

And so we arrive in the regal months of the lion Summer—empowered as tenders of the Earth, lovers of the Sacred Wild, makers of medicine, devotees of Gaia. We arrive under the full moon, in the longest days of the year, illuminated and in service to the Sacred Wild within us and around us.

Summer is time to draw on our roots, inspiration, dreams, and sense of purpose—and alchemize them into rightful action. This is when the days are the longest, and our gardens need our sweat, work, time and presence. Now we practice the commitment that it takes to parent land, ourselves, others into their glorious fruition, knowing that it is our divine responsibility and right to do so.

The season of Summer is echoed at noon and in the middle of the day, the best time of the day to digest information, work, food, and to transform energy.

As herbalists, we balance the high solar/yang energies of Summer with cooling and moistening yin herbs, like the mints and demulcents, to keep ourselves hydrated, replenished and balanced.

We draw on the tools of Winter/ yin energies to balance the blazing sun and spilling full moon. We continue working with nourishing herbs, adaptogens and nervines as needed to prevent burn out—a common symptom of running too much solar energy.

We stay grounded, aware of how mutable the element of fire can be, and stay in our hearts to ensure our sense of purpose does not shift into ego, remembering the ecosystem of our modern culture thrives on the intensity humans can generate and maintaining a deep commitment to keep one foot in deep time, Earth pace, at all times.

The air seeks to dance your pollen. The water wants to caress your petals. The Earth has been holding you all along. The sun of the fire is looking to laugh its reflection in your blooming, joyful face. Gaia knows herself through you. She blooms through you as you.

This is your time to shine like a lion, to share your gifts, to move all of the solar energy present into making your dreams come true. Walk through the fires of transformation, step into your courage and purpose. Be brave, shine, and enjoy the wild pulse of life expressing itself through you, as you!

Let’s bloom with the blossoming Earth!

“i will wade out till my thighs

are steeped in burning flowers

i will take the sun in my mouth

and leap into the ripe air

Alive

with closed eyes to dash against darkness

in the sleeping curves of

my body

Shall enter fingers of smooth mastery

with chasteness of sea-girls

Will i complete the

mystery

of my flesh

I will rise

After a thousand years

lipping

flowers

And set my teeth in the silver of the

Moon

Make : Watermelon-Mint Juice

In the summer, the garden gifts us hydrating fruits and vegetables, which are full of minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that keep us nourished, cool, and energized. Watermelons are about 90 percent water, and they are a good source of vitamins as well as potassium, copper, and antioxidants. Blended with fresh peppermint and ice, this juice is refreshing, sweet, delicious, awakening, uplifting, and energizing.

Yield: 1 serving

  • 4 cups (600 g) fresh watermelon

  • 1 cup (96 g) fresh peppermint

  • 1 cup (140 g) ice cubes

  1. Cut watermelon into cubes, removing rind and seeds

  2. Blend all ingredients and enoy! :
