JULY

ENJOY & SHINE

As the coven enters summer break, let's embrace the theme of this month: Enjoy & Shine. Summer is our time to explore, revel in the freedom of longer days, and deepen our love affair with the vibrant, blossoming world. Picture long and leisurely strolls through forests, the air filled with the scents of flowers, moments of sitting on the cool grass and watching the fluffy clouds journey across blue skies. Every breeze, burst of color and birdsong becomes an invitation to connect.

May your hearts be filled with warmth as you explore, may you find joy in small pleasures, and may your sense of wonder and connection begin to renew!

Make: Cooling Iced Teas

SCHISANDRA INFUSION

This simple schisandra infusion is the embodied energy of thriving in the full expression, enthusiasm and expansion of the summer portal. Schisandra is an energizing, stimulating adaptogen, detoxifying to the body, focusing to the mind, and uplifting and empowering to the spirit.

Yield: 1 quart (946 ml)

  • 1 tablespoon (25g) dried whole schisandra berry (not powder)

  1. Infuse the berries in 1 quart of hot water for an hour or more, preferably overnight.

  2. As you drink the infusion, feel free to chew and eat the hydrated berries to receive all of her medicinal properties. Enjoy throughout the day to stay energized. A great ally to work with daily for a month to enjoy the maximum benefits of detoxification and activation.

And into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul.”

Elecampane Root

Plant Spirit Meditation

Tuesday July 22, 2025 at 6:30 am pst

Please join Sanctuary Steward Lana Smithner Greenleaf for this enlightening meditation with Elecampane.

She shares:

Folk names for Elecampane include "Wild Sunflower", elfdoc, horse-heal, and the latter half of the scientific name- Inula helenium- is referencing Helen of Troy, as they say elecampane sprung up from where her tears fell. Elecampane's closest associates (according to the ancient Celts,) are the fairies and elves (no big deal). Then of course you won't be surprised to hear that during Mummers' plays in Britain and Ireland Elecampane was portrayed in their scripts as a miracle cure- reviving the dead.

So much more will be shared about this rooted and sunny herb- that is a sweet song for our respiratory system- when we meet, but first:

Please prepare the root of this "Wild Sunflower" for our sunrise meditation in one of these ways:

A. Overnight infusion of Elecampane root or

B. Early morning speedy decoction for the forgetful (smelling Elecampane come to a boil will wake you right up)

^per usual you can measure the folk way by adding a small palmful or less of the dried root to a quart of water

Elecampane is known for soothing homesickness, grief, and purging the most persistent of viruses from our lungs. In this age of being separated from our ancestors bones, of many not having homes, of grief abounding, and viruses that spread as pandemics leaving remnants behind, I do think Elecampane may be exactly who I need, and maybe who you need too?

Looking forward to meditating and breathing with you all and Elecampane on a late July sunrise~ with love and tears, Lana.
